Call prefix for the United States: 1

You can use the call prefix when you are in the United States and want to call someone who is outside of the United States. If you are outside of the United States and you want to call someone who is inside the United States, you first have to look up the right prefix number for that country in the prefix number list (see continental list).

The area code must be used after the prefix number and the country code (when dialing to a foreign country) but before the rest of the numbers. The area code is ussually the last code before the rest of the 'personal' number.
